Good Day Alanis,
Mom isn’t sure, but she thinks that the first words were, “no”, or, “mama”. What she does remember is that it took a long time for me to first speak, maybe as long as almost at age 2, possibly at 1 & 1/2 years old, and when I started to speak, it was in full, extended sentences.
Au Revoir……….
My mom told me my first word was “dad”, and I said it on MOTHER’S DAY!
Isn’t it strange that I hadn’t asked to my mom or my dad about this before? But thanks to you Alanis, I did it now. The answers were:
- MOM: I don’t really remember, but I think it was “shit” (but in my mother tongue: Spanish, so it was “mierda”).
-DAD: you said “dad”, indeed.
So, you have two words to choose… I cannot choose any, ‘cuz they’re my parents

my first word was “Ida” my aunt’s name
I’m not sure about my first words. Though I was told that my first steps that I took were backwards..
Allegedly, I said “agua” (which is the spanish word for water), but the story says that I said “aaa-wa” at first.
I wonder what your baby’s first words were.
Maybe Mom
I told dad, my mother told me that every man I met in the street I thought it was my father. Man, to me, was dad. The problem was how explain that to my real dad… It was hilarious.
Hi! it is a shameless situation and not polite at all… but my cousin’s grandmother used to say that if you want that a little boy start to talk, you should teach them “bad words”, so she tought to me to say…. “bitch”… and since then I have never stop talking
hahahaha….
Keké. My first teddy bear’s name.
My first word was: bitch
My first word was Car ( as my parents told me) And it was done in a English Accent. And I have always loved to learn to oprate every vehical I can too.
i asked my dad and he can’t remember but my mom told me once that i knew what a computer was before i ever seen one…she sais that i had some sort of baby toy and i kept calling it a “puter” she heard about computers so she just assumed thats what i was talking about. I probably seen a commercial or something.
go Leafs go …
and then shortly after, I remember an i love you, but quickly back to go Leafs go …
whater
Mama – for mother
Why only food as background pic?
Dada, also…the name of my favorite blanket that I still have
My first word was “Car keys”. My dad used to walk around saying “Where are my car keys? Have you seen my car keys?” So my mom says I picked up on that one day and just blurted it out.
“Happy” was my first word which I learned because of hearing the happy birthday song so many times.
I Sad “Bidu” ,that was the name of my dog when I was young lol
I’m the last of four children so I don’t think my first words were ever written in a baby book or anything. I’m pretty sure I said “Mum” or “Mummy” first.
Apparently my grandmother and mother heard me say “I’ll clean it up” after I spilled something. A whole sentence…bonus marks for me:)
Don’t remember, but i can be sure i said: “Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think!” XD your baby already said something?
“You Oughta Know” Because I was born when I heard your voice.
my first word was “pappa”, the childish word for food. my sister’s first word was “baba”, the way she (still now) calls me!
our first word defines who we are, telling something important about our personality?
so we can see I am very fond of good food, my sister is very close to me
what about your baby?
it was “inga”
it meant “water”
i was a baby genius.
BaBa !
BaBa? That’s an excellent song by Alanis! “How long will it take Baba?”…
This is a difficult question!
I think I should have preferred to abstain from any unhelpful word or comment…. huhuh
“If P than Q”. That probably wasn’t it, but it should have been..because it’s a logically true statement. xD
papá
in german “da” , means “there”. So I pointed a finger at something I needed by saying “da”.
My daughter, now 5 y, started speaking with “papa” and “heiss” [hot] , much earlier than I
My first word was “Tete”, a diminutive of “Chupete”. “Chupete” means pacifier/dummy/nipple into Spanish.
for some reason, i think my first words as a baby, were, thank you! the ‘miracle of life’ right? ;D ~ILYAM~
I walked up to my mother with a full nappy (diaper), clapped my hands together and said ‘A little service here!’. Just kidding, it was ‘Change me at once!’
It was ‘mama’ although I prefer my answer above as its much more amusing.
There is an anecdote to tell me of when i was two or three years, my parents hid in the house for a couple of months to a person who was persecuted by the military dictatorship for the year 1976 or 77, my parents worked and left me in the evenings alone with this person, among my toys i have a alligator into spanish “cocodrilo” and kept repeating to him “cocoilo” “cocoilo”, this person is safe from political pesecusión and today is Congressman, my parents tell me this history but i cant remember.
The first words I spoke and understood were “that” and “mama” according to my mother.

funny how I’ve never thought about it before. Ok, i asked my mom , and she was very surprised with the question, but she said my first words where: 1st ”vó”(portuguese version for grandma), 2nd ”agua”( portuguese version for water) and 3rd ”papa”(that in portuguese can be daddy or some kind of baby soup). The 3rd my mother didn’t knew for sure which one it was ’cause, according to her I used to eat and sleep A Lot.^^
