Great Song!
A brief return to the “old” (actually “middle period”), sweater-on-backwards-and-inside-out Alanis of the JLP days? “Numb” has the =sound= of a “college radio” hit, fer sure. Lyrically the fruit of recent explorations with Dan Siegel and Harville Hendrix, as well a small army of “pantheon of addictions” people? “The drug” need not be taken by mouth, by nose or injection. Al loves to be =up=. She likes to eat… and then be “model-pretty” thin again. She likes =men=. She likes to reel it in and then spit it out. The understandable upshots of a relentlessly inquisitive four-year-old in a mind that can process new data four times faster than average? Check out Tara Brach and Marsha Linehan on “radical acceptance” maybe. Al seems to possess it in spades. If she didn’t, would she be so willing to share what she does?
sitting in a cafe in Potsdam, enjoying my morning coffee and hoping to find HaBL in my mailbox in the evening when I get home. Listening to the live recording of Numb, reliving all the wonderful moments I experienced during your Berlin concert, remembering that I’m on the video of Numb and secretly hoping that one of your autumn German dates will be my birthday and I’ll fly all the way to Finland to see you live once more. There is happiness, after all. Thanks for breaking my European loneliness.
It’s a beautiful song Alanis. I’m really looking forward to see DVD from Berlin gig. Two of my polish friends were there in the front row and they were trudly delightet:-D It’s a shame that all of us POLISH FANS have to follow you around the Europe (I already was in Berlin 2004, Prague 2008, Birmingham & London 2012), because YOU’ve never come to us, to POLAND. WHY NOT IN POLAND??
Got my album delivered today with the DVD in it. Loving it. Saw you in Manchester and you were great.
<3
LOVE THIS SONG!!
So happy that you come to Frankfurt as well!!! That just saved my day
I was very sad when you solely played in Berlin – and I couldn’t go there… Seeing you live is amazing and I’m so glad that I still can see u on the new tour now. My most favorite song on Havoc and Bright Lights is numb. I’m looking forward to hear and see it live in November.
:):)
P.S. Good to see you so happy and joyful with your husband and beautiful little boy.
Keep on rockin’!
Love you, Annie
Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait…!
This song reminds me of FOE. But I can’t deny that many women are sitting in front of me (I’m a MD) and they’re talking like these lyrics. They need to fill something with drugs that I don’t have because they were stimulated to persecute an ideal of life that’s impossible to a man or a woman: the endless happiness with a great partner and a successful job. But they fear the failure, they fear the compromise. It’s so hard to chose to numb but if you feel that you are a failure and you’re never gonna find peace of mind, I can understand but I’m gonna fight to make you change your mind. Life is so much more.
