naughtmoses commented on the post, one of the greatest teachers of my life 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Harville & Helen have written some pretty fair material on effective parenting, as well.
Figure this: If someone who could write “Not the Doctor,” “Death of Cinderella,” “Unsent,” “Precious Illusions” and “Not […]

Al: Is there by any chance a copy of Meredith Small’s =Our Babies, Ourselves: How Biology and Culture Shape the Way We Parent= in your backpack? Just wondered. rg

Opinions are like @$$****s: Everybody has one and I have one, too… though I =surely= expect it will make little difference. But the clutch on my hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is engaged (anyway), so… […]

Proving once again that European audiences seem to be more… sophisticated? (or =something=)… than US audiences, Al headlines at a 20K-seater 3 nights after and the night before the =Rolling (f-ing) Stones=. […]

michael2: Years ago, there was something called the Alanis Morissette Mailing List (AMML) which I had the distinct honor of managing for a time. It was a worldwide mensa of about 300 members posting all manner of […]

Suggested reading (because I think she’ll back me on this): Daniel Siegel’s =Mindsight= and =The Whole-Brain Child=. Mindfulness = Awareness = Primary Perception = Pure Consciousness. But Alanis is more than […]

A brief return to the “old” (actually “middle period”), sweater-on-backwards-and-inside-out Alanis of the JLP days? “Numb” has the =sound= of a “college radio” hit, fer sure. Lyrically the fruit of recent […]

naughtmoses commented on the blog post Alanis Speaks at DLDwomen in Munich 10 months, 1 week ago
Regarding “inner children” and “attachment mothering,” one may wish to look into Charles Whitfield, Janet Woititz, Anne Wilson Schaef, Pia Mellody, Claudia Black, John Bowlby, Jude Cassidy, Phillip Shaver, D. W. Winnicott, Margaret Mahler, Terry Brazelton, Dan Siegel, and/or Daniel Stern. (The grrl’s not talking out the side of her neck; she’s got…[Read more]

What I think doesn’t matter so much here, but I will presume — and push as many chips as I have out on the table — that =she= would answer something like, “It’s not a matter of one or the other.” Because she has a very firm grasp of both dichotomy and dialectics. -

Daniel Siegel is mentioned. A grasp of who he is and what he’s about might be illuminating for those seriously bent on understanding who =she= is and what =she’s= about (these days). Likewise John Bowlby, Jude Cassidy, Phillip Shaver and Mario Mikulincer on “attachment.” Also Erik Erikson on child development, and Daniel Stern on “attunement.” [...]

naughtmoses commented on the blog post Alanis’ Inspiration for “Guardian” 12 months ago
Several of the new-era mama-with-baby watchers describe the hugely important moments of connection, mirroring and non-verbal communication between the new mother and the newly separated fruit of her flesh. It was truly startling for me to come to understand how much it means to an infant to be connected to and emotionally regulated by its [...]

Establish consciousness / awareness / mindfulness / perception as the single highest, experientially (not just intellectually) understood value. All the rest will then fall into place.

Jiddu Krishnamurti. But I expect I would neither have found him nor “gotten” him without exposure to a lot of lyric poetry by a certain light in the refrigerator.

She mentions vipassana meditation in the article. There’s a place not far from me where, after an orientation of Dr. Goenka’s method, one can do ten days in complete silence. The four articles in the series at iVillage all seem to come from the sort of mental clarity and edification one obtains from vipassana and [...]

I don’t know if she would claim so herself, but the very first paragraph of the article makes it clear that from cutting edge psychotherapists Daniel and Ronald Siegel’s PoV, AM would be an eighth-level mindfulness meditator in the tradition of people like Jiddu Krishnamurti, S. N. Goenka, Thich Naht Hahn, and Tera Brach. That’s [...]
