I don’t know if she uses ”humble” for the way of life or for the character, but both are right. We don’t need much to live, ’cause the most important is inside us. And one who know a lot don’t need to show other how much he knows. -

Well, having one hand in my pocket is my dark side. The difficult and negative one. The moments when I wanna be in my shell, hidden. Trying to understand the world. Yes, unfortunatelly politicians. In my original country I didn´t know anything about them and didn´t wanna. Only that they steal money from heaven to Hell. But in the country where I am now, is much smaller so people have more contact with politicians who goes to our houses asking for votes. I never saw it before. Don´t know what she wanted to say about the fire trucks, but sometimes they´re so needed inside myself to cool down my mind.

My guess is that Alanis meant that for whomever is ”learning” (”You Learn” is the song), the fire trucks represent something/someone that will put out the fire (personal crisis), and be a resolution.
