TORONTO ― One of fall’s most-anticipated movies touched down at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend ― and it left audiences breathless.
“Gravity,” the extraordinary survivalist adventure from director Alfonso Cuaron (“Children of Men”) stunned festival-goers with eye-popping special effects and near-constant tension at the Princess of Wales Theatre on Sunday.
George Clooney and Sandra Bullock play astronauts fixing a satellite miles above the Earth when a debris storm pummels them, separating them from their shuttle and cutting off all contact with mission control.
Almost as epic as their adventure was the technology needed to film it ― Bullock started the project with Cuaron four years ago back when the filmmaker was working to come up with the gear required for, among other things, zero-gravity shots.
That’s not to mention Michael Kors Handbags Outlet how difficult it was to act in a mock-zero-gravity environment,Michael Kors Wallets Cheap Michael Kors Outlet Onl.

“The process was so disjointed ― we shot from Michael Kors Sale Handbags the beginning of one line of dialogue to the beginning of another, and your hand started here and your head had to wind up here while your legs were being thrown up in the air,” Bullock said in a press conference after the screening.
Another big weekend screening at the gala was the premiere of director Ron Howard’s “Rush” ― an adrenalized drama about the mid-1970s rivalry between Formula One race-car drivers James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Michael Kors Sale Lauda (Daniel Brühl).
The movie ― Howard’s first to screen at Toronto ― ramped up its impact on audiences with a surprise appearance by the now 64-year-old Lauda, whose face was disfigured in a legendary crash dramatized in the film.
And he was wowed by Brühl’s work in the driver’s seat.
“[Brühl] did an incredible job playing me,” he said. “I remember when I came out of the hospital, when other people saw me, there was shock at how I looked. But when I saw the movie, and saw [Brühl] as me, I was the one who had the shock.”

Rounding out the night was the premiere of the dark comedy “Dom Hemingway,” starring Jude Law as a thief who emerges from prison looking for payback for not ratting out his fellow goons.
Law, who gained weight and grew some notoriously gnarly facial hair for the title role, was dapper and thin again as he greeted fans in the street before the screening began.
Onstage in a black suit and natty porkpie Michael Kors Collection Michael Kors Purse hat, the British actor said it took some work to change his physique for the film.
“I don’t feel like I looked that out of shape,” he said. “I wanted to feel sort of soaked, like I’d been eating porridge and whisky for years. I got there by a lot of smoking, burgers, late-night eating, lasagna before bed. Cans of Coca-Cola every day.
“I just let myself go, really ― in every facet of my life.”
