Ned Wertimer, one of TVâs most recognizable character actors who was best known as the greedy doorman Ralph on âThe Jeffersons,â died Jan. 2 at the Sherman Valley Health Care Center in California.
He was 89 and his manager Brad Lemack said he had been suffering from health complications.
His last role was in 2007âs âPirates of the Caribbean: At Worldâs End,â where he played a pirate extra.
But he was best known for roles in dozens of TVâs most memorable sitcoms.
As Ralph Hart in âThe Jeffersons,â he played a doorman whose concept Soccer Jersey of helping the buildingâs tenants, including Sherman Hemsleyâs George Jefferson, bordered on extortion.

After delivering a package or performing any other service, he demanded not just a tip, but a larger tip.
Late in the showâs run, one episode had the buildingâs owners trying to fire him. He tried to pay tenants to ask the owners to keep him, but they disliked him so much he ended up having to pay people who didnât live in the building to pretend they did.
Wertimer didnât always play grouchy roles, but that was one of his staples in a TV career San Diego Chargers Jersey that began when he got a small part in the 1950 show âRocky King, Detective.â
Born in Buffalo, Wertimer served as a pilot in World War II before getting a degree in business administration from the University of Pennsylvaniaâs Wharton School.
He also became active in drama at Penn and moved to New York to start a theater career as both an actor and an assistant stage manager.
He appeared on Broadway in âTexas Lil Darlingâ in 1949 and âThe NFL Replica Jerseys Live Wireâ in 1950. In 1961, he replaced Paul Lynde in the Tony-winning production of âBye Bye Birdie.â
Meanwhile, he also worked in numerous stock and traveling companies while moving into the embryonic world of television. He became a regular on the 1950s childrenâs program âThe Shari Lewis Show.
Once television had largely moved NFL Nike to Los Angeles in the 1960s, he moved West to join it.
He worked regularly for the rest of his career, starting with character roles in classics like âGet Smartâ and âCar 54, Where Are You?â
He appeared in âIronside,â âMayberry RFD,â âCC and Company,â âI Dream of Jeannie,â âGunsmokeâ and âThat Girl.â He San Francisco 49ers Jersey played two different characters in two seasons of âThe Mary Tyler Moore Show.â
He introduced Ralph the Doorman in a 1975 episode of âAll in the Family,â then became a recurring player when âThe Jeffersonsâ spun off into its own series. He appeared in 51 episodes over the showâs 12-year run.
In later years he also appeared in shows like âSanford and Son,â âHappy Days,â â227,â âThe Practice,â âStarsky and Hutch,â âMork and Mindyâ and âSimon & Simonâ ? as well as some that were less successful. NFL Nike Jersey
